glad to be alive

I've had quite a week!
excitement in the form of escaped cows
and a near death experience
five white cows escaped their pastures and were on
the highway
three police cars with lights going
a four wheeler and a man shaking
a feed sack trying to herd them
back home
I couldn't resist sitting out on my
porch to watch
finally the man with the feed sack
got them all to cross the road
and they headed my way
as the cows went past I sat very still
so I wouldn't spook them
I didn't think they would even notice me
but every white head turned and looked me right in the
eye as they passed
I won't forget the look on their faces
fear, threat, RUN!
and run they did!
the man with the feed sack apologized as he
walked by
little did he know he made my day

now for the other event
I was sitting at the table
finishing my lunch as I worked on my budget
I had it all worked out
and took a deep breath
as I did I sucked a little bit of food into my
windpipe
and thought "crap"
I started coughing of course
then noticed I could hardly breathe
ok now panic sets in
cause I'm alone
I cough, I run outside, I run back inside,
still choking I figure I better
grab my phone
and text my husband
I run back outside and cough really hard
the food shoots out of my mouth
thank goodness
so I call my husband who comes running from next door
and that was my near death experience
I swore I would never eat again
but I did

glad to be alive
i'm loving the goldfinch at my feeders, watching the hummingbirds
fight for their territory, making some progress on my art room, sleeping late, watching my seedlings grow, and Netflix.

sugar&flowers

we've had a week of weird weather here. one day it's cool and the next it's hot. then come the storms and it's cool again.
today is a cool day with
clear blue skies.
flowers are filling up the shops and i'm
ready to plant some myself.
i started zinnias and morning glory's from
seeds. they are growing fast.
i've been trying to cut down on sugar
but i'm not doing very well.
i've been craving Krispie Kreme donuts
and gave in to that yesterday.
i found Brach caramels earlier this week and had to get them
because I haven't seen them in years. then that cute cherry candy I just couldn't resist. I haven't been able to eat that cause it's so cute.
i'm loving walking every day and getting stronger, the warm bubbly therapy pool, seeing hummingbirds back,
playing pokemon on my brand new game boy (i know it's embarrassing),
drawing and painting, and watching Netflix.

lots of spring

lots of spring is happening and lots of art too.
with this year came schedule changes
and brandnew classes so i've been busy.
i'm loving Lifebook 2017!
learning new techniques, using new materials
all from wonderful
artists online.

i look forward to my emails each week now.
it's everything my introverted self
could want, staying home and painting.
i don't think I've made this much art in 3 months ever.

and spring... sigh...
i really love it. though i am disappointed
with winter. we had very little cold
  and hardly any snow.
i'm loving the wildflowers and moss, and the green popping up everywhere, the trees blooming adding color.
the cool wind, birds singing, water rushing...sigh.
content.

here & now

I'm joining in with Sarah over at Say! Little Hen
for Here & Now.
So much fun to see what others are up to.

Loving //  spending the day at home

Eating //  hopefully not more ice cream

Drinking //  coffee and lots of water

Feeling //  relaxed despite the mess surrounding me

Making //  crocheting a blanket with my leftover yarn, drawing a halloween girl
and her crow friends

Thinking //  about all the other things I should be doing

Dreaming //  of building a fire tonight if it's cool enough

(ha forgive me for not linking up to Say! Little Hen
seems I've forgotten how to do that. But you
can find her blog in my list on the
right.)

a broken wing and a free coloring page

I held a hummingbird. I've always dreamed of it
and a few days ago
it happened.

Our dog found it, hurt in the grass.
He probably flew into the window.  When I picked him up
he was all ruffled and messy looking.
I could feel his aliveness, quivering, heart beating in the palm of my hand.

Joyce ran in the house and mixed up some
sugar water, which we managed to feed
him from a spoon.
The sweet little thing drank and drank and drank, then
started looking better and tried to fly away.

That's when we noticed one wing
didn't work.
We watched to see if it got any better, then decided to cage him over night
to give him a better chance.
The next morning he still couldn't use the wing.

So I started searching online for a wildlife rehabilitator and luckily found one
about an hour away. I emailed her and waited.
I was so happy when she called me later in the morning and said
yes she would take him.

It was a wonderful experience.
which made me remember this drawing of hummingbirds
I finished at the beginning of summer.

It makes a fun coloring page! You may right-click and
copy it, then print it. Use markers, crayons,
water colors, color pencils, whatever
you love to use best.
And remember our little hummingbird and his
new home.
