summer mornings

I've spent a little time in my art journal
every morning this week
this girl has changed everyday
I had no idea that I would use all
this color
I had no plan for her except for her pose
I really love painting this way
no expectations no stress
for perfection
just let her appear
use whatever color I love at the moment
marker paint color pencil
I try them all
I don't love the painting the whole time
in the past I would've
crumpled it up
said it was ugly
not anymore
I've learned too many ways to fix it
and I keep trying till
I love it again

aaaahhhhh! mornings outside
with coffee are another favorite thing
mr darcy and muffie jo
agree

also loving:
loud beautiful fireworks
extra sleep
books
deer and foxes
chickens around my feet

a broken wing and a free coloring page

I held a hummingbird. I've always dreamed of it
and a few days ago
it happened.

Our dog found it, hurt in the grass.
He probably flew into the window.  When I picked him up
he was all ruffled and messy looking.
I could feel his aliveness, quivering, heart beating in the palm of my hand.

Joyce ran in the house and mixed up some
sugar water, which we managed to feed
him from a spoon.
The sweet little thing drank and drank and drank, then
started looking better and tried to fly away.

That's when we noticed one wing
didn't work.
We watched to see if it got any better, then decided to cage him over night
to give him a better chance.
The next morning he still couldn't use the wing.

So I started searching online for a wildlife rehabilitator and luckily found one
about an hour away. I emailed her and waited.
I was so happy when she called me later in the morning and said
yes she would take him.

It was a wonderful experience.
which made me remember this drawing of hummingbirds
I finished at the beginning of summer.

It makes a fun coloring page! You may right-click and
copy it, then print it. Use markers, crayons,
water colors, color pencils, whatever
you love to use best.
And remember our little hummingbird and his
new home.

daily drawings

I've been doing Lisa Congden's daily drawing challenge
on Creativebug. Each day she shares
a different thing to draw. It's fun seeing how she
draws them and then trying
to make my own.
This is the first half of the month. I can't wait
to draw and share the next half.

art journaling

I've spent most of the summer art journaling. I started a few paintings but haven't gotten back to
to finish them.  The first half I was into an e-course by Alisa Burkes. Then I joined Creativebug
and have been enjoying  a class by Pam Garrison.  I've learned new techniques from both classes
that I hope to put to use in my own work.

The following photos are my art journal pages done in ink, marker, watercolor, acrylics, crayon,
really whatever I had on hand.
